How to start Tube Website

Want your Tube Website? Here are some things you should know...

After reading what happened to youtube.com (when guys sold it to Google for some big big cash) i understood that tube sites are future

This is not for newbies, this is for big guys with lots of green to invest. Because tube sites are for sharing media files anyone who plans to run one baby like this will need at least a dedicated server with huge monthly bw. Also you will need script... Some custom scripts are pretty expensive as far as i heard... I have found one with most of standard features and options and it looks ok to me... you can find it at clip-share.com

Now since i'm scripting n00b i will skip the part related to script... Here are basic steps you will do - buy script lol, prepare your server and install everything to it that script requires to run properly (you will find all this info at clip-share.com site), then you will install script, set up everything in admin panel, make some adjustments for your site, make custom template if you're good with php etc...

Now let's say you have your little tube website finished and waiting for surfers and webmasters... how to get them?
webmasters - go and promote your site on AW forums, resources sites etc...
surfers - drive traffic to your tube site however you can

if you're not a newbie you should know this...

With time your site will grow and will get lots of bookmarking surfers, you have to keep it updated daily with new content (webmasters will help you with this one) and if you manage to cover expences of large bw bills in start you will have you tube website

Note: I don't own tube website, and this text is only list of things "how i would do it" but it's property of Adult Biz Forum and you're not allowed to change any part of it.

I would like to comment on your tubesite post.

Using a script for serving video is a bad idea, because it will scale VERY poorly.. you should rather find a some sort of streaming server to handle the video, and use scripts just for the site. You might also want a script that supports clustering, because if your site takes off, you will need more than one server to handle the traffic. This is different than any small time stuff, because ppl will expect to find all the content on one url, even if the backend has spread it accrosss a farm of computers, so your script must somehow put the content on on the most strategic server. Maybe the content that is accessed most often must be duplicated, while the less popular stuff will reside only on one of the edge servers.

Then there is the whole ordeal of converting clips into a common format that you can play in your client, and the ordeal of making sure that people arnt uploading illegal stuff. Finally there is the ordeal of avoiding hack attempts (you are more vounerable to this once you start accepting uploads!)

These are just the issues, I didnt bring on the table any solutions. However I have alot of experience with FFMPEG which must be one of the worlds fastest and most flexible video tools. Best of all it is 100% free. It has no fancy gui, but it supports more formats than any other video software I know of, and it can transcode, convert, scale, crop, adjust, remox and do other very useful stuff faster than anything out there. If you are serious, you will have to build a module in C / C++ that interfaces directly with ffmpeg, to avoid the costy fork() that is implied if you are calling ffmpeg as a commandline tool from for example PHP. There might be such a project allready, I dont know. There is a PHP fmpeg plugin module, but i didnt try it.

There are probably alot of other things you would want to do for your server scaling to work out. For example: exchange apache with thttpd/lighttpd or some other ligthweight contender.. Divide static traffic to a separate server (typically an image server running thttpd).. Strip down your PHP install to the bare minimum, (yes, that measn recompiling it with your customized configure)... Use an PHP accelerator.. optimize your kernel.. optimize your filesystem.. write a caching function for your scripts and so forth. there are probably other areas of this forum that puts emphasis on this.

I dont own a tubesite so I am not an expert, but I have spent quite a lot of time researching this, because I am in the process of writing my own webserver based on thttpd.

Hope this was helpfull for a rant :P

I read some more about the subject. If you are starting a tubesite, it appears you can use Flash media server for this. Of course this might proove too expensive given its rather high licensing costs, but if you dont have the technical skills, and can make enough money on it, this might be the way to go.

Dazzer that script looks great plus what i like very much are "sponsors" features it has... this allows you to post videos from sponsors (legal promo vids they give you) and to make sales with those... which is not case with illegal tubes, most of them don't have that feature so they are "forced" to use only PPC... and that leads to posting of illegal videos to increase traffic etc etc...

i would go with Tevs script since it's written for adult tube sites and has features you need for adult tube site, this other script is made for non-adult tubes

We worked a deal with someone to make adjustments to an existing tube script that's not overly expensive. We have our content spread over 3 servers, none of which are dedicated. I have LOW traffic and easily hit 200gb/wk. The ad revenue makes it all worthwhile.

I must say--the first, oh...2 months or so were tough, low revenues and bad conversions, mixed with heavy leech traffic cost us a lot of overages in bandwidth, and our cost SKYROCKETED. I must also add that this was paid back on the third month, several times over. One mistake easily made is making your videos appear to come from a dynamic location(i.e. yoursite.com/viewvideo.php?id=dfa2434zsdf23a). THAT IS HORRIBLE! My videos are mostly indexed on Google Videos, many diggs, and plenty of repeat visitors, many of which go directly to videos, as if referred by friends. My video URLs look like: Please Register or Login to view links , and you can substitute "play" for "p", "v", "view", "watch", and several other things. Gotta love it. We're on the serious rise on the Alexa rank-front also.
