I'm making the transition from mainstream sites and marketing to the adult biz. I'm having trouble finding out what methods that I'm used to will work, a lot obviously won't (myspace, articles etc)
I'm used to the following process for affiliate products ... setting up a few blogs, squidoos, hubpages, myspace profiles, facebook profiles, submitting a few dozen articles to ezinearticles. Then I would social bookmark the hell out of all of these, post in forums, link everything together (in a specific pattern) and do a little PPC if its a converting product. And a lot of this gets outsourced. I would also use squeeze pages to build a list for each niche, and then some email marketing. I also created a couple products , and followed some product launch formulas, which would create much appeal and demand and sell a ton on launch day. I'd also use autosubmitting software for video sites and article sites and directories. And cool software to track where the spiders come in and leave the page, so I know where to add to it (blogs) A lot of this focuses on the web 2.0 stuff, and would crank out decent sales for anything. I'm wondering how much of this stuff can be used in the adult biz... As I'm researching, it looks like people just set up big sloppy blogs with each side filled with hundreds of links and a few affiliate sites down the middle. My first thought is this all looks like crap and is put together bad, but what do I know? This might be what works here... So what stuff can I use? Is social bookmarking hot here? Can you ever use myspace or facebook (obviously indirectly) to drive traffic? Do you use directories and autosubmitting tools? Where should I spend my time once a blog is set up? Or should I skip it all and do traffic exchanges? (seems big here) Can you guys help me out and tell me what I can expect to work or not? I want to get a few blogs up to experiment, but unsure what will work. Thanks a ton guys, hope this isnt too much to ask!! |

The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to take some time to get to know the people in the industry. In comparison to mainstream markets, the Adult niche is relatively small and closely knit. You'll find that Adult site owners, affiliates and even consumers will do business more freely and openly with a site/webmaster that they are familiar with. Over the years since the Internet boom began, there have been a plethora of Adult sites that are thrown on line in an afternoon and serve up nothing but regurgitated garbage and then disappear in a few months when the site owner realizes you can't make a fortune overnight. It's going to take some effort on your part and I would suggest some serious social networking via the exisiting BLOGS and attending a couple of the Adult Industry seminar/conventions. You won't impress anyone with big plans if they aren't even listening to you. Get to know the Industry and the people who run it and THEN start working on some of your forms of marketing. DO THEM YOURSELF at the beginning! You need to have a "hands on" approach to this until you get familiar with the industry and the industry gets familiar with you. It's like a big family and although we are competing for the consumer's almighty dollar, we still stick together. Barging in with grandiose business plans, analytical graphs and criticism for the status quo will be met with pure silence. This is NOT an overnight Cash Cow. I canot express that enough. Get registered on every BLOG you can find and post an introduction of yourself to the board. Then spend a few minutes everyday posting knowledgeable and informative responses to threads as well as posting new threads with information or asking intelligent questions. This will give everyone on the boards a chance to get to know you and where you are coming from. Once a level of trust has been established, you will find people will start to come to you with opportunities to do business together and your inquiries to do business will be met more openly. I hope this helps you. It has helped us. We've been online for over ten years and still follow these same basic principles.

In addition, I forgot to mention, give as much information as possible in your BLOG profiles. Especially various options to contact you i.e. ICQ, Yahoo, MSN messenger, email, phone numbers, etc. The more people can learn about you with one click of a mouse the better your chances of hearing from them.

That sounds good. And I understand what your saying. I actually did just go to 2 big adult seminars, and was lucky to start working with a few people from each. I just didnt want to go thru what I did on the mainstream side, which was a solid 6 months of hours on the forums etc. I just don't have the tme here. I didnt mean to come acroos like like have all these big plans. I just go at projects aggressively, and really just want to know if the mainstream stuff works here, like all the web 2.0 stuff. I also want to know if I do make a blog, if it should just be crammed full of links and affiliate products.
I prob cam across wrong, I just really want to know what works, so I don't waste all my time going down the wrong path. Can you tell me if that style of marketing I mentioned works in adult? I do appreciate the help thanks |

The fastest. most efficient process to increase your traffic and marketability is through affiliate programs. Do some research, find some that obviously fit your niche and have high quality traffic. The other big piece of advice I can give you is PRESS RELEASES! One well written press release sent to every major online and print publication per month will keep your site in the forefront of everyone's mind. Stay active on the boards and participate in the community. Less of the mainstream analytical research and more of the old school pounding the pavement and getting yourself out there will provide more fruitful results!
